SoundFjord
dedicated to art that is curious of ear
A B O U T
SoundFjord was founded in a space nestled within a converted rag factory in late 2009. Operating from Tottenham, North London, it has gained an international reputation for its eclectic programme of exhibitions, site sensitive events, live performances, group crits, workshops, open studios, socials and collaborations.
In the summer of 2013 SoundFjord shifted focus to nomadic activity, and now focusses on commissioning new works whilst also collaborating on events and educational activities with like-minded organisations and institutions such as The British Library, Field Studies, Goldsmiths University of London, the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London College of Communication, London Metropolitan University, Museum of London Docklands, Octopus Collective, Parasol unit, V22 and the Victoria and Albert Museum among others.
As an itinerant space dedicated to the curation, production and promotion of sound art and related disciplines to a broad audience, SoundFjord fosters research and critical listening practices, and encourages a deeper understanding, and wider knowledge, of the sonic arts through new and unexpected experiences, cultural knowledge and skills exchange, alternative educational practices and deep play.
You will find SoundFjord's activities online, on air and in situ - unburdened by a single space or a defined architecture.
In addition to curatorial affairs, SoundFjord runs the micro-imprint Visible Near Midnight, curates and produces Postcards from the Volcano (with Stephan Barrett), and is a Visiting Fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London (2019-23). SoundFjord is also on the advisory board for Bloomsbury's Ex:Centrics series.
